The Wine

Haut Bailly II is the second wine produced by Château Haut-Bailly in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. As the younger sibling of the esteemed Château Haut-Bailly, Haut Bailly II exemplifies the estate's dedication to quality and tradition.

92-94 pts Antonio Galloni vinous.com 'The 2020 Haut-Bailly II is superb. The tannins and overall structure are suggestive of an important Pessac-Léognan that is going to need time to come around. Dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender and menthol are front and center. A wine of savory energy and intensity, Haut-Bailly II sizzles with energy.'

91-93 pts Neal Martin vinous.com 'The 2020 Haut-Bailly II was picked September 9–25. It offers a mélange of red and black fruit on the nose, hints of morels/undergrowth lending complexity, then becoming more floral with aeration, all quite mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit that gently grips. Very marine in style, shucked oyster shells infusing the sappy finish, which leaves an impressively long aftertaste considering this is the Deuxième Vin. Excellent.'

About the Wine Maker

The significance of Château Haut-Bailly was cemented when Henry Guillier's early twentieth-century edition of "Illustrated Great Wines of the Gironde" featured it alongside Château Haut-Brion as the only Graves property worthy of inclusion among Bordeaux's premier Grands Crus Classés. As a red Classified Cru Graves, Château Haut-Bailly is today one of the rare Graves estates exclusively producing red wine. Its esteemed reputation, forged in the nineteenth century, ranks it among the finest wines of Bordeaux.
