The Wine

Boasting a deep ruby red hue, this wine presents a highly complex aroma that blossoms upon aeration with notes of blackberry fruits, including bilberry and blackberry. On the palate, it is fresh and well-balanced, offering a full-bodied experience with a rich tapestry of complex flavors, predominantly black fruits, accented by a hint of oak. With excellent potential for aging, the wine's seamlessly integrated and silky tannins contribute to its exceptional finish.

94 Pts James Suckling 'A full and juicy red with blackberry, black olive, dark chocolate, and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Creamy, round and deliciously textured. Not a big and powerful wine but very attractive now and for the future. Seductive in so many way. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Best after 2026.'

92 Pts Jeb Dunnuck 'I loved the 2020 Château De Sales from barrel, and it's showing beautifully from bottle. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as a ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied style, it has ripe, supple tannins, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and classic aromatics of ripe black cherries, plums, licorice, spring flowers, and damp earth. It's another beautiful, layered, elegant Pomerol in the vintage that will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly through 2040.'

About the Wine Maker

This estate has been family owned for almost five centuries – an exception indeed in the Bordeaux region. De Sales has been passed down from generation to generation ever since the 16th century, when it was acquired by the Sauvanelle family. Since 1578, Château de Sales has seen four different families: the Sauvanelles, the Desaigues, the de Laages and currently the Lamberts (direct descendants of the Sauvanelles), the changes in name occuring when the estate was passed down through the women of the family.
