The Wine

Harewood Estate’s Great Southern Riesling is a blend of grapes grown in the winery’s recognised riesling growing sub-regions of Western Australia’s Great Southern GI: Mount Barker, Denmark, Porongurup and Frankland River.

94 pts - Kim Brebach (BWU20) : This is a blend of grapes from Mount Barker, Denmark, Porongurup and Frankland River. Generous flavour, rich and round, with notes of ripe passion fruit, pear and a squirt of lemon.

90 pts - Andrew Graham (Oz Wine Review) : This is the entry-level Riesling in the Harewood range, and while it’s not on the same par as the sub-regional wines (like the one above), it’s such an affable and generous wine with passionfruit juicy flavour and a limey citrus tang. It’s a straightforward Riesling, but for $20 this is a good pick to win over Sauvignon Blanc drinkers, ushering them into the crisp, citrusy embrace of a Great Southern Riesling.

About the Wine Maker

Even by Australian standards, the Great Southern is vast, indeed one of the largest, and most isolated wine regions in the world. It is the playground of winemaker James Kellie, where he has a clear vision to create wines that represent the diversity and capacity of this unique place.

The Great Southern wine growing region provides unmatched versatility and quality for a winemaker. Harewood Estate wines showcase the diverse and spectacular Great Southern region. Based in Denmark, along the coast overlooking the Southern Ocean, the estate vineyards cover two sites off Scotsdale Road north of the town: the original Harewood vineyard and the recently acquired Apricus Hill. The Estate vineyards are complemented by those managed to James Kellie’s specifications across this dynamic region.

James’ elegant and pure wine style reflects the pristine, un-spoilt nature of his backyard. This potential is expressed in a range of wines produced from grapes grown in select, low yielding Frankland River, Mount Barker, Porongurup and Denmark vineyards.
