About the Wine Maker 
Situated in the Lowerjo region in the southern half of Portugal, between Vidigueira and Cuba, is estate of Herdade do Rocim, spanning 100 hectares,60 of are under vine. Alentejo sparsely populated and, unlike the rest of Portugal, has many large estates. The climate is continental, featuring hot summers and cold winters. The combination of reliable weather and extensive land results in quality at an affordable price. While wheat is the predominant crop, olive trees, cork, and vineyards are also significant. Wines from Alentejo are gaining popularity as consumers recognize the region's potential, with quality improving rapidly. It is often considered the new world within the old world, with highly professional wineries employing a scientific approach while honoring the terroir.
The Rocim estate was acquired by the late Jose Vieira, founder of the Movicortes group, a Portuguese company specializing in agricultural machinery with roots in farming and vineyards. His daughter Catarina Vieira, oversees the estate's development, holding a degree in Agronomical Engineering and a postgraduate course in Enology. She is joined by Pedro Ribiero, who studied Enology at the UTAD (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro) and worked with Hardy’s Wine Company in Australia. He has been involved in projects such as Herdade dos Grous and do Valbom. Pedro contributes to winemaking decisions and manages the estate's sales and business affairs. With the birth of their son, Jose, Catarina and anticipate continuing the family business into the next generation.
Since the acquisition, they have made significant investments in the land, completely regenerating the vineyards and constructing a new state-of-art winery. With a thorough overhaul the vineyards, they were able to plant higher-quality vines.
