The Wine

Embark on a journey to the Central Highlands of Tasmania, where you'll discover the secluded charm of a vineyard nestled in this region. Named after the quaint town of Ouse, situated along the Ouse River, this vineyard stands alone, with no neighboring vineyards in sight. Characterized by its low rainfall, prevailing north-westerly winds, and a terrain of stony basalt soil with underlying broken shale, it's the windswept, arid hills of central Tasmania that define this place. Pinpointing it on a global map, one might mistake it for a vineyard in Burgundy, given its robust power, structured complexity, and savory nuances. Indeed, it is a remarkable site!

96 Pts Huon Hooke, The Real Review ' Medium-light colour with a tinge of purple; very detailed, lifted, fragrant bouquet with an array of floral and spice nuances, including stemmy whole-bunch and smoked-meaty notes as well as rose and violet touches. Intense palate with great length and quite ample tannins to finish. A superb pinot noir.'

95 Pts Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 'A single-site pinot noir from Tasmania's Central Highlands. Dark ruby in the glass with an enchanting aromatic profile of wild strawberries, red plum and dark cherry with an array of exotic spice and hints of roasting game, sous bois, Chinese five-spice, undergrowth, shiitake broth, a touch of cola, pressed wildflowers and amaro herbs. It smells gorgeous. It flows stony, complex and savoury in the mouth, aromas transposing neatly with great detail, and there is a bright, minerally cadence and sour cherry twang as the wine trails slowly away, leaving a wake of game and spice.'

About the Wine Maker

Originally established by Bertel and Anne Sundstrup in 1987. It was the sloping hills overlooking Bass Strait that made the site unique and inspired the Hill-Smith family to purchase the vineyard in 2007, along with distinct single sites around Tasmania in their pursuit to produce the perfect single site Pinot.
