The Wine
Byrrh Grand Quinquina is crafted from the original recipe of the late 19th century, which gained global recognition and became the muse for fifty years of iconic poster art. It blends a rich, port-like wine and mistelle with a solid foundation of natural quinine, creating a fruity and invigorating aperitif that can be enjoyed on its own, with tonic and a twist, or alongside blue cheese. Byrrh also complements a variety of spirits such as vodka, gin, cognac, tequila, Irish whiskey, and grapefruit, making it a perfect substitute for sweet vermouth in a Negroni.

About the Wine Maker
In 1866, Simon Violet and a pharmacist colleague from Thuir in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of France, created a new quinine-based aperitif. Capitalizing on the trend for quinine tonic wines, Byrrh quickly gained popularity across France. From 1903, the brand held advertising poster competitions to boost its promotion. With aggressive advertising campaigns, Byrrh became immensely popular in the 1930s. By 1935, it was the top aperitif brand in France, with sales hitting 35 million liters. In 1976, Byrrh was incorporated into Pernod Ricard.
