The Wine

Vermentino is a relative newcomer on the Australian landscape but is set become a favourite due to its natural texture and versatility. Vermentino is actually Spanish in origin but is believed to have travelled first to Corsica and then to Italy where it is the dominant white wine grape of Sardinia. It is a late-ripening grape variety which loves a hot dry climate, a natural choice for the Hunter Valley.

The grapes were sourced from the historic Roxburgh vineyard in the Upper Hunter Valley. Grafted onto 30 year old Chardonnay rootstock the decision to trial Vermentino is certainly paying off. True to its reputation as a late ripening variety we harvested the Vermentino grapes in late February, after all of the Hunter reds were picked.

Our Vermentino shows wonderful aromas of jasmine, white nectarine and a touch of warm spice. The palate is textural and full bodied with flavours of pear and a crisp minerality. The ultimate food wine. The Little Wine Co
