The Wine

The Bosworth Chardonnay is a delicious, complex, and full-flavored wine with notes of nuts, stone fruit, and a hint of citrus on the nose. It has a delightful citrus finish and is certified organic.

This wine represents winemaking at its finest, with no expense spared. It uses the best French oak, wild fermentation, and a careful selection of the best Chardonnay grapes from the vineyards. The Chardonnay is pressed directly into barrels and undergoes a natural fermentation process. The wine is left on high solids, which allows it to develop depth and complexity. To retain its natural acidity, the wine is prevented from undergoing secondary malolactic fermentation.

91 Points Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion, Feb 2024 "Organically certified 36-year-old vines; full barrel ferment, 20% new French, no mlf. There’s a pitch here towards yellow stone fruit over white, which is no surprise given the locale, but there’s also considerable harmony and poise. That fruit profile is what the combination of site and clone (I10V1) give, and the stewardship to bottle is suitably respectful. A subtle play of oak, with hints of spice and praline, enriches without intruding, the acidity of a cool year pleasingly keen. Drink by 2027."

About the Wine Maker

Situated in the foothills of the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges and bound to the west by the pristine waters of the Gulf St Vincent, Battle of Bosworth is in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region.

Located in Willunga, to the south of the McLaren Vale township, Edgehill Vineyard was established in the early 1970s by Peter and Anthea Bosworth. Willunga itself was settled in approximately 1837 and Bosworths have been growing grapes in the district on and off from the late 1850s. Son Joch Bosworth took over the management and day to day running of the vineyards in 1995 and set about converting the vineyards to certified organic viticulture from this time.

Battle of Bosworth Wines was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and partner Louise Hemsley-Smith and wines are made from vines that were planted in the early 1970’s by Joch’s parents.
