The Wine

Just a few barrels produced of this rich, intense wine that contains 50% of Chardonnay Rose (a rare, colour/skin mutation of Chardonnay specific to the Village) with 50% Chardonnay. Intense ripe exotic aromatics and great texture allied with ample structure to carry the fruit intensity. Strikingly intense. The French market wants all of this wine. Just 3 barrels of this remarkable wine produced. Note this wines sings if given some air or drunk over a few days - so will cellar well too!

Isabelle on 20202020 is a small vintage in quantity – maybe just a little less than in 2019 – but one that preserved a lovely acidity, despite the summer dryness, so the wines are not heavy and have lovely balance. The dryness means not much rosé this year as this is a very stony area, so suffered the most from the lack of rain. Our whites and Bourgognes are in their bottling phase but all the rest will slowly be done by the end of the year, after 2 months in tank, after assembling, to stabilise them. I find that a lot of wine that are usually more masculine wines, show a softer side in 2020…Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report, November 2021

About the Wine Maker

The Collottes have been grape growers in Marsannay for four generations, but it wasn’t until 1981 that a young, 16 year-old Philippe Collotte bottled the first wine under the name of Domaine Collotte. In 2013 Philippe was joined by his daughter Isabelle (pictured above) who had just completed her viticulture and oenology studies at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Whilst Isabelle focusses particularly on the production of the domaine’s white wines, there is no doubt that her addition to the team has helped refine the quality of the wines across the board. One thing to remember is not to drink these wines too cold - they have great substance that builds further complexity with some air. This is a source of very attractively priced Burgundy!
