Ros Ritchie Chardonnay 2021
The Wine
Hand-picked in mid-March 2021 from two vineyards, Baxendale and Collina del Rey in in Whitlands, the fruit underwent whole bunch pressing and fermentation in French oak Foudre and puncheons, followed by a 3-month maturation. It exudes aromas of ripe nectarines and white peach, complemented by nutty notes and subtle hints of vanilla. This elegant and stylish wine, with its fine texture and complexity, can be cellared for up to 10 years. It epitomizes 'Value' high-quality cool climate Australian Chardonnay, bearing a slight resemblance to 'Petit Chablis'.

About the Wine Maker
After two vintages in Rutherglen and McLaren Vale, followed by 25 years at Delatite, Ros launched her own winemaking business and brand in Mansfield in 2008. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband John relocated their operations to newly constructed cellars at Barwite Vineyards, situated above the Broken River near Mansfield.
One aspect of winemaking that Ros has always cherished is the chance to travel and immerse herself in the wine and food cultures of the world's wine-producing regions. Over the years, she has seized these opportunities to explore New Zealand, France, Germany, and parts of Italy, particularly Alsace, Baden, Mosel, Rheingau, and Pfalz. These regions, known for their riesling and gewürztraminer, have deepened her passion for these varietals and piqued her interest in pinot gris. Her more recent trips to the northern American wine regions of British Columbia, New York State, Oregon, and Washington have further fueled her ambition to evolve her aromatic wine styles.
