The Wine

Second wine from Chateau Troplong Mondot

93 Points William Kelley, Wine Advocate 'Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries and raspberries mingled with hints of rose petal and spices, the 2020 Mondot is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a pure, seamless core of vibrant fruit and a long, succulent finish.'

93 Points Jeb Dunnuck 'All Merlot from limestone soils, brought up in a mix of once-used barrels and tank, the 2020 Château Troplong Mondot Mondot sports a dense ruby hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, smoked tobacco, chalky earth and hints of tobacco. This beauty is medium to full-bodied, has an elegant, seamless mouthfeel, and a great finish.'

93 Points Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux 'This sets out its stall as a wine from a specific plot of pure limestone soils straight away, and this is a second wine to savour. As with last year, this is a masterclass in the impact of this particular soil type, with a bright violet colour, juicy blueberry fruits and touches of redcurrant. It has a tingling finish with a whoosh of salinity that gives tension and balance.'

About the Wine Maker

Spanning 43 hectares, featuring 25 sub-terroirs, and cultivating 3 grape varieties, Troplong Mondot stands as one of the largest vineyards in its appellation. The vineyard's origins trace back to 1700, with the construction of a chateau in 1745. Raymond-Théodore Troplong, alongside his nephew Edouard Mondot—who later added his surname—shaped the estate's identity and structure. Currently managed by Aymeric de Gironde, the vineyard boasts a plantation composition of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc.
