The Wine

Hommage is North East facing and a lot more sheltered then Lodestone from the elements. A very small plot of just over 1 Hectare planted in 1998 & 1999. Kevin and Tricia are quick to acknowledge that this vineyard was made possible from the generosity of Main Ridge Estate who offered cuttings of the G5V15 Pinot clone. They regard Main Ridge as one of the key founding estates of Mornington, hence the title ‘Hommage’

Aromatically, unmistakable Mornington. Black cherries with notes of sage and thyme, which also follow through to the mouth. Persistent and lingering on the palate with all elements married nicely together. 278 dozen made.

"Medium-full depth of colour with a purple tint; the bouquet vanilla and chocolate flecked with eucalyptus-mint, but also dark cherry to plum and savoury underbrush nuances, while the palate is full and intense, quite powerful and firmly structured with a long carry and abundant tannins. This should reward cellaring. Impressive power and concentration"

About the Wine Maker

The Hurley Vineyard wines are a set of Pinot Noirs built out of a singular focus shared by husband and wife team, Kevin Bell and Tricia Byrnes. The vineyard is located in Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula. If vintage conditions allow, three separate Pinot Noirs from three individual blocks are made, showcasing the differences in style across their excellent site. The original Hurley Farm was established by Irish settlers William and Johanna Hurley back in the 1860s. Burgundy clearly inspired them to this endeavour, not to mimic the wines from the Cote d’Or in terms of taste but the ethos of single site expressions, terrior driven wines.
