The Wine

95 Points, Ned Goodwin MW, April 2024 "This wine delivers ample reason for intrigue. Red cherries, musk, root spices and warming notes of shiitake mushrooms, dashi and undergrowth, conferring depth and ample, medium-bodied complexity. The tannins are chewy and satisfying, yet in need of resolution. Spicy and firm. This stands to age well. Drinkable now, but best from 2026."

95 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “I like the stringiness of this, the tension, the fruit, the length. It’s real pinot. It feels as though it’s desperate to rush forward but it holds itself back until it gets to the finish, where it runs. It has a minerally aspect, a sour ripeness, a thread of woodsmoke, a garni of herbs. It will cellar beautifully. It’s cool, ripe, savoury, seamless & long.”

96 points, Patrick Eckel, winereviewer.com,au “The nose sees bright black cherry combining with wet earth and understated brown spice. The palate has black cherry from start to finish; there is a black tea influence and taut lines of acidity that afford the wine wonderful texture and length. There is a general coolness to the wine with fruit flowing effortlessly and textured detail that unfurls with time in the glass. Drinking well now but should be exceptional in time.”

About the Wine Maker

Curly Flat, located in Lancefield 60 minutes from Melbourne was established in 1989 by Jenifer Kolkka and Phillip Moraghan. From the outset, they had a clear focus on vinifying world-class cool-climate Pinot Noir & Chardonnay. With a total 33 acres of hand tended vines, they and the Curly Flat team were committed to creating world-class wines that are an expression of both site and variety. Jenifer and Phillip were determined to build quality in every aspect of their operation, and they poured every resource into their 'baby', Curly Flat without compromise in the pursuit of excellence in wine quality with little or no regard to short-term or even medium-term return on investment. As of late October 2017, Curly Flat is now owned and operated by Jenifer Kolkka along with Matt Harrop (ex Shadowfax) joining the team as Chief Winemaker to oversee the grape and wine production alongside our existing skilled team.
