Casale della Ioria 'Campo Novo' Cesanese del Piglio 2022
The Wine
Campo Novo is a dynamic and complex expression of the renowned Cesanese grape, originating from the hilly terrain of Ciociaria in Lazio. The estate's younger vines, under 15 years old, undergo a 15-day skin contact in steel tanks, fermenting with natural pied de cuve and daily punch downs.
Following a gentle pressing, fermentation continues for approximately three weeks, succeeded by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is then racked once and aged on fine lees for a year before bottling. This process yields a wine that showcases the grape's youthful characteristics, featuring an exuberant aroma of garden strawberries, wild blackberries, violets, fresh tar, and berry cobbler.
On the palate, a medley of brambly fruits, including blackberry, sour cherry, blueberries, and juicy plums, leads into a rich array of amaro spices such as juniper, thyme, and mountain pine, balancing the firm tannins while maintaining a lively freshness.

About the Wine Maker
Casale della Ioria is a distinguished winery, hailed as the most influential in Ciociaria's millennium-old region in Lazio, Italy. Reigning supreme in the Cesanese del Piglio territory, their legacy spans generations, beginning in 1921.
Paolo Perinelli assumed control of the winery in 1982, ushering in the prestigious DOCG designation the area proudly holds today. Nestled in the commune of Acuto, the estate perches on a hill with views of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, at roughly 400 meters above sea level. It boasts an enchanting landscape of forests, olive groves, and vineyards, committed to organic cultivation.
The land is preserved in its natural state, with free-ranging animals and promoted biodiversity, fostering a distinct ecosystem. The estate's acidic clay soils display a spectrum of earthy colors, from luminous yellow-browns to rich chocolate shades and vivid reds, bestowing unique characteristics upon the growing grapes.
While their expertise lies in Cesanese d'Affile, they also nurture modest plots of the exquisite Olivella Nera, the crisp local white grape Passerina, and the intricate Bellone.
