The Wine

Bouchard Père & Fils has been producing the Beaune du Château cuvée, an exclusivity of the House, since 1907. This wine, which is a blend of 17 Premier Cru vineyards vinified separately, demonstrates the different facets of the terroir of Beaune. A dark garnet colour with brown to mauve shades. Complex bouquet associating perfumes of jammy red fruit, fig, peony with a hint of chocolate. Harmonious and deep palate, with a beautiful maturity and dense but fine tannins.

88-90 Pts Jasper Morris, MW Inside Burgundy 'Very dark black purple, this is soft and luscious with blackberry and blueberry notes, not too much tannin, nor too much acidity. Tasted Nov 2021.'

89-91 Pt Burghound, Allen Meadows 'There is touch of mocha to the mostly purple fruit and warm earth scented nose. The almost lavishly rich and opulent middle weight flavors possess a suave and round flavor that, somewhat curiously given the richness, concludes in a youthfully austere finale.'

About the Wine Maker

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.
