Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc 2022
The Wine
‘As long as you have a Vacheron in your glass you won’t get disappointed....‘[Vacheron is] surely one of the highlights in the Sancerrois...the cousins demonstrate that the Sancerrois is no less fascinating than the Côte d’Or. ’The Wine Advocate
The vineyards for Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc are planted in calcareous, flint soils. The harvest is performed manually into 20 kg boxes. The bunches are pressed on arriving at the winery and the must is decanted cold to leave it clean. It then ferments in stainless tanks at a temperature lower than 20 ºC, in order to extract and preserve the fruity aromas of the grape. Lastly, the wine is aged on lees, filtered and bottled.
" It’s very good. There’s slight flint and smoke on this nose, followed by gooseberry, fresh pear, elderflower and chamomile. A light body finishing with a racing acidity". BBR
On the 2020 : ‘Most producers can only dream of an ‘entry-level’ wine that’s this good. The 2020 Sancerre is a touch flinty on the nose right now, and offers pure fruit reminiscent of gooseberry, nettle and boxwood. This has a certain ease to it, conveying a mellow texture within its light-bodied frame. Drink 2021-2028.’ – Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, 90/100
" A wine with immediate authority and nobility - powerful but beguilingly delicate... The soils in Sancerre are similar to parts of Chablis & Champagne - so here the terroir speaks first with the grape variety complementary. This vin oozes Class!". TC

About the Wine Maker
Organic viticulture has been a goal of the family for a number of years; as of 2003, the entire estate was certified organic. The following year the winery was converted completely to biodynamic agriculture--to be sure, you won't find more terroir-driven Sancerre anywhere else in the appellation. Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron are ably leading the domaine to ever-loftier winemaking heights. The wines speak for themselves—always consistent, the quality of Vacheron Sancerre continues to astound.
