The Wine

100% Sangiovese from vines ranging in age from 12 to 22 years old with maturation taking place in French oak for a few months. Rich red currant and red cherry fruits show excellent intensity and flesh across the mid weighted palate with earthy dried herb, tobacco and spice characters also chiming in.

90 Pts Eric Guido, Vinous 'Masses of crushed cherries, ashen stone and grilled herbs make the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino impossible to ignore. This is a silky and pliant effort with a pleasant inner sweetness and pretty strawberry fruits. The 2020 lingers with a slight herbal tinge and a tart twang of wild berries, yet the endnote is freshness. There's so much energy here.'

About the Wine Maker

Villa Argiano lay claim to being the oldest wine estate in Montalcino, located below Saint'Angelo in Colle, some 8km from the famous wine town. Built in 1581 the Villa passed through many sets of hands over the centuries and in 1992, the current owner Noemi Marone Cinzano purchased the property. In the past the renown consultant, Giacomo Tachis, the man behind Sassacaia, was involved in the project and the Bordeaux varieties were planted but today Bordeaux-trained winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers holds the reins. The estates range of wines is superb and includes Suolo, their silky Sangiovese and stunning Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.
