The Wine

87-89 Pts Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy 'A vivid purple with some depth. This Hautes Côtes has considerable intensity for the appellation. Definitely some raspberries in the mix. This retains its liveliness but the fruit needs the longer elevage which it will get. Excellent aftertaste, very promising. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2023.'

16+/20 JancisRobinson.com '50% gravel, 50% blue marl. 30% whole bunch, 100% aged in used barrels. Cask sample. Mid ruby. Zesty red fruits, cherries, redcurrants, raspberry. There’s a graceful freshness to this wine with those green whole-cluster notes. Ripe tannins rising on the finish. (MH) Drink 2025-2030'

Plush, giving, vital and delightful! TC

About the Wine Maker

'Banning any synthetic elements in the vineyards and cellar is incredibly important, but we must go even further. The environment is central to everything we do and we are convinced that a rich and healthy ecosystem is the only guarantee for healthy grapes, with complex and deep flavors, and balance allowing the most natural vinification possible.' Pablo and Vincent Chevrot

The Chevrot family has been producing wine in Maranges since 1830. Currently, the winery is managed by brothers Pablo and Vincent Chevrot. Their parents initiated the bottling of wines under the Domaine Chevrot label in the 1970s, significantly contributing to Maranges' recognition as an appellation in 1988. Prior to this, the region's wines were simply labeled as Côte de Beaune - Villages. The Maranges appellation encompasses three quaint villages: Dezize, Sampagny, and Cheilly. Pablo Chevrot, who once presided over the Maranges appellation, is an excellent resource for inquiries about the area. Besides overseeing the winery, he is also a founding member and Vice President of "Les Aligoteurs," a collective dedicated to the promotion of premium aligoté wine crafted by skilled vintners.

Domaine Chevrot currently possesses 18.5 hectares of vineyards, comprising 50% pinot noir, 40% chardonnay, and 10% aligoté, spanning the appellations of Maranges, Santenay, and Hautes Côtes de Beaune. Some of their vines, planted by the current winemakers' grandfather, are as old as 75 years. Pablo and Vincent have preserved their family's legacy while also enhancing it, notably by transitioning to organic farming practices in 2008. Soil cultivation is a priority; they utilize two horses to plow five hectares of land. The introduction of seeded cover crops is another vital practice that enriches, aerates, and stabilizes the soil, as well as mitigates erosion. Various plants contribute differently: grains add structure, legumes like beans and clover capture atmospheric nitrogen, and cruciferous plants such as mustard introduce minerals and help aerate the soil. Organic compost is used in the vineyards, along with minimal copper and sulfur applications to address oidium and other concerns.
