The Wine

95-98 Points (4 Stars) Jasper Morris MW : "Brilliant dense purple. Really a magical stylish bouquet, very pure. Then an incredible density of pure rich purple fruit which soars across the palate. Really beautifully balanced with complex fruit notes, I put the sweet cherries slightly in the lead. Good acidity too, everything is perfectly together. Note that Faiveley have decided not to show their Les Ouvrées Rodin for tasting at the En Primeur stage. Tasted: November 2019"

93-96 Points Burghound "Note: from a 1.29 ha parcel An even spicier and wonderfully expansive nose reflects notes of anise, clove, lavender and violet that suffuse the red and dark pinot fruit scents. The mouthfeel of the big-bodied flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension along with good detail and a subtle minerality on the equally firm but somewhat less austere finale. This is slightly more complete and a wine of class and grace though make no mistake, if you wish to see it at its peak, a good deal of patience is advised. Tasted: Jan 10, 2020, Drink 2040+"

About the Wine Maker

Based in Nuits-St-Georges, Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and has been under the guidance of Erwan Faiveley since 2005. A few years ago, quite a few… we had the privilege of hosting one of our most memorable Masterclasses lead by Domaine Faiveley, where we looked at the 2012 Vintage. Long ago the Domaine had a reputation for producing good but at times charmless wines that required much cellar time – sadly some of the older wines have never come round. The tasting was a revelation! The wines were breath taking…a reflection of the Domaine’s new direction under the guidance and vision of the then younger Erwan Faiveley. The breathtaking wines were a culmination of new vineyard practices, inauguration of a new gravity feed winery and adoption of contemporary winemaking philosophies – all of which combined to captured the full potential and greatness of their terriors. The wines were much more open and pure - charming while still retaining depth and structure. Pleasure giving from the get go but also with ageing capacity given the now harmonious /balanced state of the wines. A contender for one of the most improved Domaines in Burgundy over the last decade!
