The Wine

 80% Grenache, 7.5% Syrah, 7.5% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan. 100% whole-bunch, matured in concrete tank.

‘Just a gem of a Côtes Du Rhône that shows both the vintage and the producer perfectly, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Le Poutet reveals a medium ruby hue as well as a great perfume of sweet ripe strawberry fruits intermixed with sappy flowers, pepper, violets, and hints of garrigue. Possessing a medium-bodied, vibrant, taut mouthfeel, it's perfectly balanced, has the vintage's fresh, elegant style, and a great finish. You should buy a case of this, and it will keep for over a decade.’ 91 points, Jeb Dunnuck, November 2022

About the Wine Maker

This estate is located in northern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape and Cotes du Rhone vineyards border directly on to Chateauneuf du Pape close to the estate winery. 100% whole bunch vinification in large cement. Ageing in cement tank for 18 months for both the reds with no fining or filtration. Charvin produces finely styled Grenache based wines showing great depth and finesse (approximately 80% Grenache for each wine with small amounts of Vacaresse and Mourvedre as well as small amounts of Carignan and Bourboulenc for the Côtes du Rhône). Winemaking is traditional with no de-stemming and all ageing is done in cement tanks. No wood is used for the elevage of either wine. There are no secrets here, simply old vines, very low yields and minimal winemaking intervention. The Côtes du Rhône is regularly rated as one of the very best from this area and perhaps it is not surprising as the vines for this cuvee border directly on to the appellation for Chateauneuf du Pape in the northern sector where they are located. “Charvin may indeed produce the Richebourg of Chateauneuf du Pape.”— Robert Parker Jr, The Wine Advocate
