Rouges Queues, Maranges Rouge en Buliet 2020
The Wine
It was with this small parcel in Maranges that the winery started out in 1998. The oldest vines in this vineyard, located on the lower slopes in the Dheune river valley, were planted in 1934. South/Southeast exposure ensures good ripening every vintage. The higher clay content soil makes for a wine that is just plain delicious in the first several years in bottle and aging well for up to 10 years.
In 2020 there’s serious structure here, with classic cherry fruit, orange peel, herbal aromatics, plum, and chalky tannins. A great example of Maranges’s potency!
Bio-Dynamic certified.

About the Wine Maker
Domaine des Rouges Queues was established in 1998 by Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey. They farm six hectares biodynamically across 15 different sites in various appellations. The name 'Rouges Queues' or 'red tail' in English, came about by the 'Black Redstart' birds who are resident of the area.
Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey farm six hectares of certified biodynamic vineyards in Maranges, Santenay, and the Hautes- Côtes de Beaune. These wines are an excellent representation of good farming in Burgundy and showcase unique, expressive character of the terrior that is sometimes lost in the bigger estates. These are pure, alive and raw wines crafted with loved by this avant- garde couple that do almost everything themselves.
