The Wine

From a magnificent Premier Cru site within the Fourchaume 1er Cru, with a uniquely Deschamps stamp on it - sitting on the more wild, explorative side of Chablis vinification. Cote de Fontenay occupies a small southeast facing hillside at the bottom of Fourchaume, just to the west of the village of Fontenay-près-Chablis. This gives it exposure to the gentle morning sun, rather than the more intense afternoon sun felt by the other Fourchaume vineyards. Flecks of white florals and dandelions and sweepingly pure, like a gust of wind on a snow cap. Orchard fruit and meadowsweet, mascarpone and the perfect slice of lemon tart.

About the Wine Maker

Owned and managed by Guillaume Vrignaud, thje Domaine takes its name from Guillaume's grandfather. The Vrignaud family has been settled in the village of Fontenay-pres-Chablis for five generations.  The Domaine is one of a handful of family estates to produce organic wine in Chablis. The family has the utmost respect for nature and biodiversity and has always been working their land in an organic way. In 2009 the Domaine received organic certification but to Guillaume, organic farming goes beyond what any certification requires and is more a way of living. Guillaume aims to produce wines that reflect both their origin and climate. As a result, intervention in the cellar is very low and is often a slow process that respects the personality of the wine and the vintage.
