Alex Foillard Brouilly 2019
The Wine
Alex Foillard’s Brouilly comes from the aptly named 'La Folie' (Madness), a steep vineyard just above Reverdon.
"...Working in Brouilly and the Côte de Brouilly, which represent Beaujolais’s two southernmost crus, just south of Morgon, Alex plays with the sometimes mind-bending and rule-defying nature of the special terroirs here. The general rule is that Brouilly is the Côte’s slightly softer, more sensuous sibling. This is perennially true with the two classic bottlings from Château Thivin, for example. With Alex’s parcels, however, that rule is reversed depending on the vintage". Tom Wolf KLWM
93 Points - Josh Raynolds, vinous.com "Glistening ruby. Primary red and blue fruits and succulent flowers on the mineral- and spice-accented nose. Bright, spicy and energetic on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that show fine clarity and deepen slowly with air. Delivers seamless texture and bright, minerally cut on the gently tannic finish, which displays strong tenacity and repeating floral and mineral notes".

About the Wine Maker
Alex Foillard, son of Beaujolais legend Jean Foillard, made the first wine under his label at twenty-five years old. Beaujolais fans immediately took notice. Now in his forth vintage, it's clear that he has an extraordinary ability to coax aromatic complexity and silky texture from the Gamay grape. This isn't surprising. Alex grew up working with his father in the winery and cellar and continues to do so today. If you know Jean Foillard's wines, it's easy to detect a similar textural appeal and purity in Alex's wines. After graduating from wine school in Beaune, Alex returned to his family's domaine in 2015 and began searching for his own patch of vines. He ended up with a hectare of Côte de Brouilly and half a hectare of Brouilly. Both great wines , we’ve selected the Côte as the pick in 2019! His wines are principally listed with select restaurants, selling through quickly each year. This is a great opportunity to secure his rare creations at very attractive pricing.
