Description
Based in Nuits-St-Georges, Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and has been under the guidance of Erwan Faiveley since 2005.

A few years ago, quite a few… we had the privilege of hosting one of our most memorable Masterclasses lead by Domaine Faiveley, where we looked at the 2012 Vintage. Long ago the Domaine had a reputation for producing good but at times charmless wines that required much cellar time – sadly some of the older wines have never come round. The tasting was a revelation! The wines were breathtaking…a reflection of the Domaine’s new direction under the guidance and vision of the then younger Erwan Faiveley. The breathtaking wines were a culmination of new vineyard practices, inauguration of a new gravity feed winery and  adoption of contemporary winemaking philosophies – all of which combined to captured the full potential and greatness of their terriors. The wines were much more open and pure -  charming while still retaining depth and structure. Pleasure giving from the get go but also with ageing capacity given the now harmonious /balanced state of the wines. A contender for one of the most improved Domaines in Burgundy over the last decade!

Moderate wood and menthol influences frame the intensely earthy and gamy aromas of both red and dark currant. There is excellent energy to the stony medium weight plus flavors that are at once succulent yet powerful where the latter carries over to the serious, firmly structured and mildly warm finish that goes on and on. This somewhat rustic effort is very Corton in basic character and a wine that's going to require patience. Score: 93-95, Tasted: Jan 10, 2020, Drink 2020+, Issue 77 - Don't miss! – Burghound
